College Point, NY

College Point is named for St. Paul’s College, a seminary founded in 1835 by Rev. Augustus Muhlenberg. The college closed its doors around 1850, but the name stuck. The village was formerly called Lawrence’s Neck, Tew’s Neck, Flammersberg, Strattonsport and College Point. However, in 1867, when the village was incorporated; the residents chose College Point as the official name, with remnants of its original walls still remaining intact.

The modern College Point is a vibrant Queens neighborhood with a lively restaurant scene featuring diverse international cuisines—from Chinese and Italian to Latin American favorites—and hosts community events like Restaurant Week to showcase local eateries. It offers convenient shopping at places like the SkyView Mall with many brand stores and outlets, College Point Center with Target, ShopRite, BJ’s and more, as well as a variety of neighborhood shops along College Point Boulevard For families and outdoor lovers there are great parks and waterfront spaces such as MacNeil Park, Powell’s Cove Park, and College Point Fields for recreation, playgrounds, and scenic views of the water.
Ten minutes away is the renowned Flushing Meadows–Corona Park, with a public pool, playgrounds, and a wide range of recreational activities for all ages, which also holds the renowned US Open International Tennis competition. During the World Cup it will host the only World Cup fan zone in Queens for select group-stage matches.  At a stone’s throw away is the METS home, Citi Field, former Shea Stadium, and adjacent to that, the first soccer-specific stadium, Etihad Park, home to NYCFC, with a 25,000 capacity, set to open in 2027.
